Ingeborg "Jeannie" (Immer) Matney (January 13, 2010)

 

Ingeborg O. “Jeannie” Matney, 84, of Gower, MO passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born on November 24, 1925 to Erich Frederick and Anna Josepha (Cehak) Leonhardt-Immer in Gloggnitz, Austria. Inge grew up and attended school in Austria, Brazil and Germany. She later attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin, Germany and then the Institute of Graphic Arts in Vienna, Austria.

On April 21, 1950 she was united in marriage to Major James B. Matney in Landshut, Germany. After their marriage they lived in various places while Major Matney served in active duty in the US Army. In 1960 they returned to his family homeplace near Gower where they farmed and raised their three daughters. Her husband, James passed away on September 21, 1982.

After losing her husband, Inge continued to run the family farm for 28 years. As a young farm wife, Inge was involved in various community organizations including the Chat and Nibble club which she was a member for 60 years.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Fritz and Kurt Immer.

Inge is survived by her three daughters, Christine Matney, Barbara Shumaker, and Monica Kiesling and husband, Dave; grandchildren Margie Houghton, Stephanie Hight, and husband, Ron, Jim Houghton and wife, Emily, Sarah Kynard and husband, Bryan, Jody Shumaker, Jaqui Ruoff and Katie Nemeth and husband, Frank; seven great-grandchildren, Alex, Marshall, Nathan, Caroline, Madelyn, Hailey, and Julian; sisters, Daisy Immer, Brazil, Christine Hasher, Portugal; brothers, Roland Immer and Florian Immer both of Brazil, aunt, Frau Professor Elizabeth Cehak, Austria; and many friends.

Memorial Service: 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16^th at the Hixson-Klein Funeral Home, Gower. Family and friends are welcome at the family home after the service.

Inurnment will be held later at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery.
